The United Nations has launched a multinational advisory group of experts who will build a “global scientific consensus” on the governance of AI and shared understanding of its risks and challenges. The U.N. acknowledges that AI has incredible possibilities but also potential harms.
The AI Advisory Body, comprising 39 experts from various countries, will draw up by year’s end preliminary recommendations on international governance of artificial intelligence. The advisory body will also recommend a shared understanding of risks and challenges, and key opportunities and enablers to leverage AI to accelerate the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals, a major U.N. program, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.
